Dramatic improvements are being made in the Coteaux du Languedoc vineyards
and cellars.

Deep, dark sweetness with a blackberry hint. Carries through to
a very attractive palate.
Forward fruit could be mistaken for New World but an underlying
touch of earth brings it back to Provence.
A very internationally acceptable wine which is still southern French.
Up to 8 years.

Château Flaugergues Côteaux du Languedoc 1998 (17,5
points) is very elegant.
The tannins and the fruit are deliciously melded and softened one
into the other, and the finish is inspired.
This is a very serious yet fun-to-drink wine.

1998 Château de Flaugergues, Côteaux du Languedoc
Of the half-dozen different wines Flaugergues produces, this 70 per
cent syriah to 30 per cent grenache grape blend from vineyards overlooking
the Mediterranean is one of the best !
It was bowled over by its unusually rich, complex, perfumed style,
that reeks of seductive syriah and robust herby, briary fruit. This
Flaugergues will make a great barbecue red and will also go down well
with roasted red meats.

Note : 86/100
Robe grenat sombre, bel aspect. Nez plaisant de chair et de
fruits mûrs oscillant entre prune bigarreau. Belle texture
en bouche , soyeuse et veloutée à l'attaque, plus
enrobée de fermeté à l'évolution,
mais le fruit reste présent, associé en finale
à d'agréables notes chocolatées. Un vin
complet à servir sur un gibier.

La Méjanelle
Robe rouge rubis moyennement coloré. Le nez exhale des arômes
de liqueur de framboise, de groseille rôtie, de cerise et de
bonbon à la violette.
Le vin est dense et séveux mais très sec et serré
; il offre des flaveurs de petits fruits rouges et de noix de muscade.
Ce Côteaux du Languedoc révèle une belle épaisseur
mais s'avère actuellement assez serré avec son acidité
au contour un peu sec et ses tannins qui dominent.
