The Vineyard

The Château de Flaugergues is situated in one of the twelve terroirs found in the Côteaux du Languedoc known as 'La Mejanelle'.
The Romans cultivated vines and olives here over 2000 years ago. The monks of Grand Mont maintained this tradition, and after them the ancestors of the current owners have continued to do so from 1696 until the present day.
This exceptional terroir is made up of rounded pebbles calles 'les Grés' (from deposits in the Rhone delta) and thrives in the area's Mediterranean climate with its strong maritime influence.
The 30 Ha (75 acre) vineyard is dominated by early-ripening grapes; it is the harmonious combination of different vines which allows for the creation of such a rich range of fine aromatic wines.

The 'Terroir'

vigne flaugergues

The Chateau of Flaugergues, a splendid “folly” of the 18th century and property of the Count and the countess Henri de COLBERT, is located within reach of Montpellier.
This property, both a vineyard and a tourist attraction, has been classified a historic monument. It has been inhabited and animated by the same family since its creation (1696). vintage

Why the daring choice of the screw-top ?

bouchon à vis

The tradition of the cork is strongly linked to that of wine. To make such a change is controversial. But it is not a provocation, it is a pure technical choice. The screw-top solution is not more economical. It is more costly than cork.

The screw-top preserves the aroma and freshness

Cork is a natural product that is very hard to control. 10 % of all wine with cork is corked. Synthetic cork is an efficient solution to the problem. But the screw-top also improves conservation. This type of corking allows the regulation of air exchange, which depends on the quality of the ring joint. The screw ring respects the maturing process of wine. It is suited for the storage of any wine.

It facilitates opening and consuming

The taste of wine, as well as the wine bottle, have changed over the centuries. Wine and wine production techniques have evolved to meet expectations. Wine should be for all occasions and enjoying it should not depend on the corking.

It respects the pleasure

And finally, simplifying the corking does not mean simplifying the taste.

Nothing has changed as far as our vocation to wine production goes: Our biggest concern is still to keep stimulating your senses !
